TIDA NZ 2017 – Architect-designed apartment winner – Tawera Group & Paul Brown Architects
The TIDA NZ 2017 Architect-designed apartment winner
About the project: Tawera Group’s Hereford project is an excellent example of adaptive reuse that increases residential density on the Auckland CBD fringe.
Built in the late 1980s, the building was a 15-level rectangular office tower sitting on four levels of cascading podiums.
Paul Brown Architects reworking of the building preserved its original structural integrity while converting the interior to quality apartments with large floor plates, excellent amenities and sweeping views to the north and west.
The judges felt that Hereford demonstrates the potential there is to capitalise on underutilised commercial buildings and create residential units that make the most of their prime position.
