Ticks all boxes
Eco friendly is also user friendly in this new Wellington show home by David Reid Homes, which reflects the firm's commitment to sustainability
Priorities change over time, especially when it comes to residential architecture. Today we want homes that reflect our relaxed lifestyles, and increasingly we are also demanding eco-friendly design.
This new, single-level, pavilion-style show home by David Reid Homes sits amid mature trees in the Ferndale eco subdivision in Waikanae. Tim Sunderland, of David Reid Homes Wellington, says every aspect of the 202m² home was designed with sustainability in mind.
"Houses in this subdivision need to meet specific design covenants, and they are all things David Reid is committed to incorporating wherever possible."
The exterior of the house features sustainably milled bandsawn macrocarpa boards that help the home blend with the surrounding landscape. Pink Batts insulate the walls and ceilings, while double glazing ensures heat is not lost through windows and doors. The house also has bevelled cork floor tiles to maximise the insulation, dual ducted heat pumps and a Watersmart greywater system.
"There is no compromise in the quality of the fit-out," Sunderland says. "The house also shows all these features can be included for a reasonable cost."
Around 90% of all David Reid Homes projects are custom designs, and each client receives a fixed-price contract.
The show home is at 4 Ferndale Dr, Waikanae, phone (04) 904 5959. Or visit the website: www.davidreidhomes.co.nz.
