This way or that
With its mobile cabinetry and floating stainless steel countertop, this kitchen mixes contemporary design with high functionality
Thinking outside the box is the hallmark of contemporary architecture, and it is very clearly reflected in the design of this new kitchen.
Designer Yvan Le Brock of DesignArc says the kitchen needed to complement the modern aesthetic of the house, but it also had to the meet the specific needs of owner Tariq Kadri, who uses a wheelchair.

"Introducing a floating stainless steel countertop means the chair can be positioned under the counter while the owner is working in the kitchen. It is also slightly lower than a standard countertop."
One end of the stainless steel counter is anchored by a post to a cabinet that can pivot to provide additional serving space.
Le Brock says the white Carrara marble floor slabs, which provide a more seamless surface than tiles, provided the starting point for the material choice. Pal-Dao wood cabinets are contrasted by dark wenge wood and sea-blue backpainted glass, which make a dramatic counterpoint to the flooring. The cabinets feature pull-out units for easy access.
