Building a headquarters that contains leading products and materials, is environmentally friendly and that sets a benchmark in construction is something every business aspires to. Ensuring visitors and staff can navigate their way around the building may not be the first priority, but it is equally deserving of attention.

For the NZI Centre which fulfils the first three criteria devising a wayfinding signage system that was user friendly and consistent with the building's environmentally sustainable design principles fell to Rocket, says director Ross Hall.

"Rocket worked closely with Ocean Design Group to ensure the wayfinding solution was in keeping with the look and feel of the building, as well as remaining faithful to the overall brand guidelines."

As IAG's main criteria for the materials used in the building was sustainability, Rocket was required to source environmentally friendly materials, says Hall.

"We used the new 3M Green Films, which contain no PVC or plasticisers. This was a first for us and meant our application team had to go through a complete re-training."

In addition to signage, Rocket was tasked with creating a series of installations celebrating NZI's 150-year history. Working with a collection of heritage pieces provided its own challenges.

"Preserving the historical integrity of the artefacts was paramount and the utmost care was taken to ensure no damage was caused during mounting," says Hall. "A great deal of research was undertaken by historian Richard Wolfe to provide correct information to accompany each installation."
