The Wright address
Inspired by the work one of the world's most celebrated architects, this residential community has an enduring quality
In a fast-paced world of manufacturing short cuts and mass-production, handcrafted finishes provide a sense of both luxury and permanence. The developer of the Hamlet Estates recognized this, and sourced a skilled artisan company to create several faux finishes within the project.
Working closely with designer Ellen Graham, Faux Finesse provided faux-painted and stencilled walls, hand-painted murals and other architectural details, says president Lorrie Loechner.
"The key to faux painting is that everything is done by hand, giving a one-of-a-kind look," says Loechner. "A Damask stencil pattern was chosen for some rooms, for example, giving the expansive moldings detail and a sense of movement."
Faux effects and murals provide eye-catching features in many of the homes. A hand-painted stained glass skylight draws attention to a lofty ceiling in one living room, while a surfing theme in a children's bedroom, and a martial arts scene in another further their sense of individuality.
"Some laundries even feature a painted clothes line, complete with flapping washing," she says.
