Passive deisgn techniques such as Sunshield Louvres ensure Central One's occupants are cool when it matters
LUSH FORESTS, black sand beaches, lakes and native birdlife these are just some of the things people associate with Waitakere City. Preserving this ecological heritage is paramount to the Waitakere City Council and its subsidiary Waitakere Properties.
Environmentally Sustainable Design manifests itself in numerous ways at Central One reducing not just the strain on the environment, but also providing benefits for the end user.
For instance, the 190mm elliptical louvres that were applied to glazed expanses of Central One help reduce dependence on air conditioning, while also improving working conditions by reducing glare inside, says Rob Woolrich, managing director of Sunshield Louvres.
"Anywhere there are large areas of glass, Sunshield's louvres offer an ideal solution when you want to shut out the heat of the sun in summer, and let it in during winter," he says.
"Our aluminium louvres are extruded and are available anodised or powder-coated in the colour of your choice. Extremely durable, all Sunshield louvres are wind-resistant and weather-resistant. All fittings, which carry manufacturers' guarantees, are stainless steel with UV-stabilised components, so they offer the utmost durability and dependability."
Not only do the louvres work wonders in controlling indoor temperatures, but their clean lines add a contemporary architectural style. All products, including aluminium louvres, cedar louvres, rainshield roof louvres, privacy screens and gates, are custom made in New Zealand from the highest quality materials. There is also a choice as to how you would like the louvres to operate. The options available include manual, motorised, remote controlled, or fitted with a built-in rain sensor that automatically triggers a closing mechanism whenever it rains.
