Terminal velocity
Well signposted Sharp Signs tell the story
The Auckland Airport international air terminal upgrade was not just about facilitating passenger movements. For the airport company it was also about upgrading the country's major gateway to give travellers a new, uniquely New Zealand welcome.
Central to this philosophy are the numerous large murals and artworks throughout the public areas, which were supplied and installed by Sharp Signs.Sales and marketing director Ross Rooney says the murals feature 3M film from Aarque Graphics, which provided high-quality images that were printed in-house.
Sharp Signs also manufactured and installed all the directional signage and general service signage throughout the arrivals area and the new pier. Rooney says Sharp Signs worked with Designworks and architects Stephenson & Turner to develop a new way-finding brand that would become the prototype for all future signage at the airport.
"We investigated and prototyped numerous combinations of materials, paint finishes, lighting effects and fixing details," he says. "Sharp Signs also proposed and implemented the use of LEDs as a lighting source to help reduce power consumption and promote the use of eco-friendly materials. The LEDs, supplied by Total Supply Ltd, also have the advantage of providing a soft light that makes the text easy to read."
