TEMPERATURE control
Components to help keep the Christchurch City Council's new premises comfortable all year round were supplied by Temperzone
For a building to be awarded a 6-Star Green Star rating, its systems must all be designed, manufactured and installed to a very high standard.
Temperzone manufactured several of the major components for the air conditioning system in the council's new offices. More than 1100 floor grills, imported from Krantz in Europe, a new agency for Temperzone, were used throughout the building, giving flexibility to reconfigure workstation positions or to alter the number of staff in particular areas with ease. Temperzone worked on this with consultant Powell Fenwick and installer Climatech.
A challenging aspect of the project was in the provision of several hundred motorised control dampers for the inside of the double-skin facade. A secondary glass wall was added over the original wall of the building, creating a large cavity. By tightly closing the dampers in the winter, the building is kept warm, and by opening them in the summer the building is naturally ventilated at no cost using a stack effect. To be effective, these dampers had to fit perfectly. And because they are visible from the outside of the building, the design specified a special custom anodised finish.
