TECHNICAL CHALLENGE
Assembling and installing the facade on the renovated Christchurch City Council premises was one of the largest projects ever undertaken by Alu-fix
Installation of the dramatic glazed double-skin curtain wall system featured on the Christchurch City Council building called for an experienced joinery company with the ability to deal with the extra-large panels that were a feature of the renovation design.
Alu-fix Installation is a specialist in the installation of large-scale commercial aluminium joinery. For its part in this project, the company took delivery of the aluminium exterior windows and double-skin facade joinery from manufacturer Alutech and assembled the various systems and panels on site before installing them. The two glass walls of the facade are held in place by a steel structure and are separated by walkways providing access for service people such as window cleaners. Dampers to control air flow at the top and bottom of the curtain wall also had to be installed into this complex facade system.
With many of the panels measuring as much as 2m x 5m, this was a technically challenging project. To complete the job within the time frame required, Alu-fix sourced specialised lifting equipment and designed special tools and equipment.
