Sleek corners, smooth surfaces and a predominantly white palette are popular options for today's kitchen designs. Yet, just as a splash of colour can provide a whimsical note in a minimal interior, so too can the choice of cooking appliances establish a serious tone.

In the kitchen featured here, the luminous orange-gold coloured glass wall offers an interesting visual counterpoint to the crisp white surfaces and opaque glass cabinetry doors. It is offset by the Smeg stainless steel gas hob and two ovens that take centre stage in the room.

For clean, efficient air extraction the powerful Smeg rangehood is discretely located within the row of upper cabinets. In addition to being almost invisible to those seated at the dining side of the island, its quiet operation ensures that cooking odours disappear without fuss.

Directly beneath the row of cabinets, the Smeg stainless steel microwave fits snugly into a recessed shelf on the side wall.

With a 34.54 litre capacity and 10 pre-programmed power levels, this versatile microwave complements the ensemble of Smeg cooking appliances.
