A broad array of electrical services were installed on the expansive venue Singer Group undertook the physically demanding project
One of the largest undertakings at the revamped Eden Park was the installation of a staggering quantity of electrical services. Singer was awarded the contract, which included two main switchboards, 146 distribution boards, over 14km of mains cable, 16km of sports field cabling and 40km of lighting cable. There are 4650 internal lights, 242 pitch floodlights and 120 external lights in the carpark and egress areas. Two 300KVA UPS battery supplies were installed to provide full capacity, one-hour backup supply to sports field lighting.
Not only did this project involve the physical task of installation, it also required painstaking detail work. For example, the field lighting required each lamp to be individually connected and independently controlled. Each fitting was specifically aimed to a computer-generated layout design, and then programmed for the different requirements of rugby and cricket.
On a site the size of a small farm, with hundreds of other contractors, close teamwork was a vital factor. Singer mobilised a team that peaked at 30 staff, spread from one end of the site to the other. Each task had a team leader reporting back to a site supervisor and project manager who co-ordinated the labour and material requirements to meet all milestones throughout the 18 months of work. Health and safety was another major focus. Singer appointed a site safety delegate, and provided specific training. SINGER GROUP
