This was certainly the case for the kitchen shown here. Rather than completely remodeling the kitchen in their Southwest home near Phoenix, the owners chose to give it a fresh look by replacing the tired, worn countertops and backsplashes.

Their aim was to find a countertop surface that would complement the existing ceramic floor tiles and the locally inspired geometric detailing on the cabinetry, pulling the whole look together.

The new Volcanics Collection of acrylic solid surfaces from LG Hi-Macs provided just the right solution, allowing them to replicate the cabinetry detailing on the countertop corners.

To visually anchor the space and offset the warmth of the wood cabinetry and terracotta tiles, three monochrome colors were used. A pale gray called Santa Ana was chosen for the countertop. This is accented by a dark Merapi edge and lighter geometric detailing in Gemini.

Further interest is added by extending the backsplash up the wall to the height of the cabinetry, with a bold steeped pattern framing the windows.
