B y tradition, a summer house is a place where family and guests can unwind and relax, with casual entertaining the order of the day. Not surprisingly, in homes such as this, the kitchen is the heart of the home and its importance cannot be underestimated.

To ensure the kitchen in this home met the high standard of specification evident elsewhere, Craigco Cabinets was commissioned to build the cabinetry in the kitchen and walk-in pantry.

President Craig Donaruma says the painted cabinets feature a catalyzed conversion varnish, which makes them resistant to chemicals and more durable than a standard lacquer finish.

In keeping with the Cape Cod style, the cabinetry has a furniture look, which is enhanced by face-frame cabinets and inset doors. Custom molding on the doors incorporates bead detailing.

The island and wall cabinets feature granite countertops, while two other units in the vestibule and pass-through have pine wood countertops.

Donaruma says the success of the overall design is a credit to the vision of LDa Architects.
