Summer by the pool
Designed for the family, this pool from Mayfair Pools is an integral part of the wider landscape
Sloping sites can pose a challenge for pool designers, but they can also result in an outdoor living area with a difference, as the project featured here illustrates.
Designed by Earthworks and built by Mayfair Pool company Paremata Spa & Pool Centre, the pool landscape incorporates a variety of levels that have been used to good effect.
At the lowest level, a paved area provides room for outdoor seating. A large porthole in the swimming pool wall offers a glimpse of the pool and provides plenty of fun for the younger family members, says Jeff Cochrane of Paremata Spa & Pool Centre.
"The family wanted to enjoy a great summer lifestyle," he says. "This pool is designed so all family members can enjoy the setting at different times of the day."
A raised curved wall, topped with planter boxes, is a feature of the far side of the pool. A break in this wall provides space for a small jetty again designed with the children in mind. Another long timber jetty at one end of the pool provides a platform for sunbathing and conceals a hideaway pool cover.
At night the pool is illuminated by lights under the water and on the walls.
