Striking golfing gold in Ōmokoroa

The owners scored a dream home-in-one with this expansive, light filled Landmark residence on the doorstep of a harbourside golf course

Designed and built by Landmark Homes

From the experienced group home builder:

Deciding to downsize can be difficult, but the opportunity to design and build a new home right on the doorstep of a spectacular harbour-side golf course was too good of a chance to pass up for a passionate link-loving couple.

The resulting show-stopping Landmark Home in Ōmokoroa, Tauranga was awarded Regional Gold for the Bay of Plenty area in the prestigious 2022 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards for its building excellence, superior quality and – most importantly – meeting the happy homeowner's brief.

We spoke to Landmark’s Bay of Plenty franchisee Carly Stewart about the inspiration and process for this award-winning Design and Build Landmark home.

Living the dream

A love of golf and the desire for a private sanctuary that offered picturesque views of the nearby rolling greens on their doorstep was a crucial factor that needed to be considered during the design stage.

The couple are avid golfers, so they wanted that feeling of having a private haven while encompassing the vistas of the golf course, says Landmark’s Bay of Plenty franchisee Carly Stewart.

"Their dream was to have a golf cart parked in the garage, so when we designed the house, we added a little wing off to the side with its own roller door so the homeowner can easily store his golf cart,” she says.

Wow factor

Although the couple were worried about moving from their larger home to a more compact footprint of 248m², the expertise of Landmark Homes Bay of Plenty’s design and construction team quickly allayed their fears.

Keeping closely to the customer brief, Landmark has created a stunningly crafted, open and spacious single-level three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with two cosy and comfortable living areas.

Expertly placed skylights in the kitchen and dining area flood the home with natural light making it feel even more expansive and airy.

“The home is very inviting,” Carly Stewart says. “It feels like a private sanctuary while simultaneously being an entertainer’s dream – it’s definitely got that wow factor.”

The open-plan kitchen/dining flows seamlessly to a large uncovered deck that houses a swim spa perfect for soaking away the day and offers expansive views of the manicured green beyond.

“Originally, the deck was only going to be half the length, but throughout the building process, the homeowners decided to work along with us and extend it," says the Landmark Homes Bay of Plenty franchisee.

"And they’re really pleased they did – they love coming home after work, getting in the swim spa, and looking out at the golf course.”

Award-winning quality and design

Not only did Landmark exceed the homeowner's expectations on this award-winning design and build, but its expert team of builders and designers also harnessed their quality workmanship and artisanal skills to create some truly outstanding features.

“The owners wanted to be a little bit more experimental with having a few different claddings.....
