Step this way
This separate walk-in shower and tub gives a relaxing choice ofoptions in this traditionally designed master bathroom
Amenities such as walk-in showers can feature in smaller bathrooms, as long as the planning is done with care. This project, designed by Connie Schey of Insignia Kitchen and Bath Design Group, makes clever use of space to do just that.
Existing plumbing restricted the scope for major restructuring of this master bathroom, which is in a 50-year-old penthouse condominium overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Nevertheless, the designer has installed a double walk-through shower with wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted rain shower, body sprays and a hand shower and a whirlpool tub beyond.
"The owner wanted modern amenities with a traditional look," says Schey. "For the period feel, I chose faucets and shower heads with an antique copper finish, and cream stone tiles. The custom vanity has ornate, slightly Gothic detailing, stained to match the doors elsewhere in the home."
A pale green oil paint was selected for the walls, to give a classic, eggshell finish. Stone mosaic tiles are used as a motif around the tub and in the stone flooring. The tiles cover the shower floor, and are inset as tiny diamonds in the flooring elsewhere. Knotty alder was chosen for the custom vanity, with Emperador dark polished marble for the twin vanity top.
