Even the most contemporary-styled renovation strives for a sense of solidity and permanence. One way to achieve this enduring look is with natural stone.

Yarrabee Floors & Paving sources and supplies an extensive range of sandstones, limestones, slates and bluestone from throughout Australia and overseas, says sales and marketing manager John Hardy.

"Available in an array of tones, styles, and finishes, these stones provide a rock-solid feature for both interior and exterior applications," says Hardy. "Many stones are stocked in several shapes and sizes from 300x300mm to 800x800mm tiles, in bullnosed lengths up to 1.5m long, in crazy paving and various walling products."

The two up-market residences shown on these pages both used Yarrabee stone products to best advantage.

"Natural sandstones and black limestone are two of our most popular products. Sandstone has been used extensively in various forms on these projects," says Hardy. "Desert Sand sandstone merges well with other natural materials and offers a sense of luxury. This applies when used for small touches as well as for sweeping feature surfaces. For the residence on the previous page, Desert Sand sandstone tiles have been used as a linking feature between timber floors in the study and the pool beyond the French doors."

The same sandstone in hammer cut slabs was used in a broader application to create an outdoor entertaining area.

"The other residence features Desert Sand sandstone in both tile and bullnosed form," says Hardy "Here, the variations in colour and texture provided contrast with the monotone of the rendered building and the black of the interior pool tiles."

The company can source a specific type of stone for a domestic or commercial project, and can even organise special shipments of stone cut to required sizes.
