The home's clean-lined, open-plan design meant the kitchen would be seen from several points in the living areas. It was important the kitchen suited its surroundings and also worked as an independent feature within the greater space.

Parklane Kitchens and Interiors was asked to custom manufacture and install the kitchen, liaising with the client on all aspects of the design details, says managing director Kerry Dobbyn.

"The overall look required was an upmarket, utilitarian kitchen with high specification fittings," says Dobbyn. "For example, Blum Tandembox drawer systems were used for the cabinetry."

The design called for an open, spacious feeling and both the cabinetry design and colour of the lacquer finish contribute to this.

"We created a four-metre-long floating drawer unit to run along the kitchen wall, recessing the support structure to achieve the overall effect," says Dobbyn. "White accentuated the light feel."
