Sparkling silver

There are often a number of product options to choose from when trying to create a particular look for your kitchen.

Kitchen designer Scott Martin of Blue Plum Design suggested silver-colored surfaces for the two kitchens featured on this page, to create a contemporary look and make them feel light and spacious.

"Both kitchens had limited space and natural light. Silver melamine, which is more cost-effective than metal products, has been combined with darker materials to give both kitchens a contemporary look. A silver finish on the high-level cabinetry lightens the whole kitchen, and the lower cabinets have darker surfaces without affecting the reflection of light," he says.

Other advantages of the silver melamine are its durability, easy care and competitive price.

"Fingerprints don't show, and you can have a high-performance, stylish kitchen for a lower cost. What's more, the kitchen looks different as the light changes during the day and, at night, the silver surfaces come to life," says Martin.
