Spacious outlook
A boxed-in, badly-lit bathroom is transformed into an open, airy room by the design team at the Elegant Bathroom Design Co
Sometimes it's not what you add, but what you take away that can make all the difference in interior design.
In this bathroom, internal walls once enclosed the toilet and the shower, contributing to a dark, unwelcoming space. As the homeowners wanted a light-filled, contemporary interior, the first task for the team at Elegant Bathroom Design was to remove the walls and install a skylight, says director Claire MacLean.
"Not only did this open the room up to natural light, but it enabled the view of the tree-lined pool area outside to be visible throughout the room."
The custom-designed oak vanity was made to look like a piece of furniture and the walnut-framed mirror and vibrant-coloured artwork help disguise the utilitarian purpose of this room.
At night those using the shower can enjoy the reflection cast by the pool lights below the window. The bathroom also includes three lighting schemes designed to create a calm, relaxing ambience.
To avoid clutter in this compact space, there are recessed storage cabinets.
At Elegant Bathroom Design, trained consultants can guide homeowners through the entire bathroom design process from layout to installation.
