The South Island's most prominent retail destination has recently taken shopping, socialising, dining and entertainment to a whole new level literally.
Westfield Riccarton has undergone an extension, increasing shopping opportunities, upping cinematic options and introducing a new Cafe Court that offers a more upmarket, cooked-to-order dining experience to complement the existing food court.
Completed on time and to budget, the project met the expectations of all concerned not surprising given Westfield's mall-design pedigree. The Westfield Group was recently recognised at the Property Council New Zealand Awards, receiving the Retail Excellence award for Westfield Manukau City. This followed an earlier success in 2008, when the company received the Retail Excellence Award and overall Supreme Award for Westfield Albany.
Westfield Riccarton had previously been expanded in 2004, with an extension linking it to the nearby Rotherham Street, effectively adding the attractions of this famous restaurant and cafe precinct to the mall.
The 2009 expansion introduces a new tier of retail and entertainment opportunities set atop the groundlevel 2004 extension, connecting with and expanding the cinema and Farmers store already at this level, and looking out over Rotherham Street's bustling sidewalks. The feel of the new space is welcoming and contemporary, with natural touches that echo and celebrate the local environment.
In addition, a new four-level carpark building has been built alongside, supplementing and in some cases replacing rooftop carparking on the mall itself.
