With Queenstown continuing to attract record numbers of tourists, more hotels are needed to keep up with demand
Building a hotel on the scale of Queenstown's Sofitel requires a construction company familiar with the challenges posed by large projects.
Amalgamated Builders built both the Millennium and Copthorne hotels in Queenstown, and brought this experience to the Sofitel.
Amalgamated Builders was involved in the design process from the outset, thus being able to fully understand the developer's requirements. The company assisted with budgeting, and advised Perron on construction materials so the project could be completed as quickly as possible. One suggestion was to use Sto plaster for the exterior, as it has good durability. Colour is an integral part of the Sto system, which eliminates the need for a painting subcontractor. This means scaffolding can be removed earlier.
The company worked alongside Group CDA, structural engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, hydraulic engineers and landscape architects to complete the project within the tight timeframe of 14 months.
