Real stone in cool greys and whites adds a feel of permanence to the Logan Plaza mall entrance and a belief the building will be around for generations to come
The recent upgrade of Upper Hutt mall Logan Plaza enabled Design Group Stapleton Architects to incorporate and celebrate iconic images of Upper Hutt and its environs within the space.
Natural timbers used extensively within the mall reference the area's link with forestry, while the use of stone captures the essence of the surrounding hills.
Architect John Sik says Original Stone Stonecladd was specified as a feature for the plaza entrance and within the mall because of its authenticity.
"The range of stone colour gave us the natural palette we required for this project," he says. "It complements other materials used, such as timber, concrete, steel and glass, and gives the plaza entry the gateway to the mall a real sense of solidity."
Within the mall, a large stone and timber clad arch is central to the interior street, acting as both an orientation element and a backdrop for staged events and displays.
Original Stone sales manager, Andrew Kelliher, says the Stonecladd walling system offers an abundance of attributes for use in a commercial environment.
"Stonecladd is easier and faster to install than traditional schist. No footing requirements are needed for weight loading and it possesses a durability that can only come from real stone," says Kelliher.
