Providing space to interact with family and friends is an increasingly important facet of modern kitchen designs. These two kitchens cater so well to this need that they were both finalists in Hadco's 2008 Modern Kitchen Award. Designer Trudy McGinnis used Viking appliances in a stone gray color to match the cabinets in this custom kitchen. The CSI Kitchen & Bath Studio project is the result of a reconfiguration of the living area, which allowed for a bar to be included. A curved island becomes the focal point, separating the cooking and entertaining areas. European cabinetry in cherry laminate was chosen, with stainless steel soffits and toekicks to match the Viking appliances requested by the homeowners. When creating her award-winning kitchen design, Trudy McGinnis aimed for a space that would still be valid for the homeowners in years to come. Multiple counter heights and a raised eating bar allow for family members of all ages. As the space is contained by three glass walls, the neutral gray of the hickory cabinetry complements the riverside setting.
