Designing a luxury retirement village on a greenfield site provides a rare and ideal opportunity to create a cohesive, integrated and resident-focused living environment.Klein Ltd, the architectural firm responsible for the design of the new Metlifecare village in Takapuna, The Poynton, already had a head start on this project the company has worked with Metlifecare on many projects, for more than 10 years.Klein managing director Steven Hill and senior associate Shaun Thompson say a landscaped town square is the central focus of the new village. Apartment buildings are arranged around the square and linked by a wide colonnade, which unifies the village by providing a sheltered edge for a wide variety of activities centred on the square. Maintenance costs were reduced by the use of natural stone, Keim mineral silicate paint and ColorSteel.Steven Hill says a collaborative design process ensured programme demands were achieved.
