Needing to maximise space is a situation with which we're all familiar. In the case of the NZI Centre, the issue was how best to utilise the space available to the onsite cafe to create an environment that would be both functional and harmonious. This was the conundrum faced by Fletcher Vaughan, founder and creative director of Fletcher Systems, when tasked with providing a design for the cafe seating. The solution was Realm a modular component comprising a high-back, double-sided segment. Designer Fletcher Vaughan was responsible for designing seating for the cafe area. "The challenge was to create enough seating within the designated footprint. Realm addresses the brief by providing seating on the enclosed side of the piece, as well as the outside of the curve. The design not only maximises seating, but also creates sculptural elements when the units are grouped together."Made from flame-retardant foam over a sustainable pine frame and covered in commercial-grade fabrics, Realm is suitable for a range of applications within the hospitality and commercial fields. "Dynamic in its response, Realm combines form and function in a creative solution," says Vaughan. For more details, contact Fletcher Systems, PO Box 90658, AMC, Auckland 1142, phone (09) 378 4113, fax (09) 378 4115.
