Clean lines draw attention to the skilful crafting in this kitchen from RH Cabinetmakers
One of the advantages of choosing a simple or neutral colour scheme for the kitchen is that it's much easier to add your own personality to it.
The owners of this kitchen wanted it to have uncluttered lines. Initial plans were drawn up by Vesna Paligora of Cook, Sargisson and Pirie, and Rob Hendrickx of RH Cabinetmakers was commissioned to build and install the kitchen.
"We then worked closely with the owners to tweak and refine the plans to create exactly what they wanted," he says.
To add colour and character, a display cabinet fills one wall of the kitchen, and includes open shelves where interesting objects can be shown. A dramatic splashback provides another focal point. Concealed push openers and negative handles on the doors and drawers ensure the kitchen has a clean-lined, flush look.
The challenges included running the grain along the cabinetry horizontally, and designing the Stoneology-topped island so it appears to float. To achieve this, the island's weight is carried on a steel plinth.
