It is said that a picture paints a thousand words, and this is true of the house shown here. But it doesn't tell the whole story the new David Reid Homes Queenstown show home has a lot going on behind the scenes as well.

Abi Mackenzie, the general manager of David Reid Homes Queenstown, says the home, at Jack's Point, was designed to capture the essence of the local architectural vernacular. The house has a pitched roof and cedar board-and-batten cladding teamed with a corten steel chimney and schist stone landscaping features.

The continental climate was another key design influence the house was designed for thermal efficiency. In addition to full insulation, it benefits from passive solar energy, with concrete floors absorbing the sun's heat.
