Allure Oak. Matt finish. Vertical cabinets. Designer Sandra Banks. Word of mouth is one way to learn about new kitchen designs, products and materials, but it is better still if you can see them in action. It's a philosophy Kitchens on Thorndon has taken to heart with its new showroom in the Woolstore Design Centre, in the design precinct in Thorndon, Wellington.Designer Sandra Banks says the firm has designed a high-end showroom that illustrates a number of innovative ways materials and products can be used to create an upmarket kitchen with a real point of difference."We wanted this showroom to be outside the square in terms of what you might see in a traditional kitchen showroom," she says. Designer Sandra Banks. Titanium Granite bench top. Allure oak vertical cabinet with matt finish. Perimeter cabinets have CaesarStone Snow quartz benchtops, which complement white lacquered doors and drawers, and a custom-patterned mirror splashback. To provide a solid look, the CaesarStone has an 80mm edge to the benchtop."CaesarStone Snow gives us the pure white that you can't get in a granite," says Banks. "It is also a very versatile material. To show another way this material can be used, we created a matching CaesarStone top to our meeting table. Although the top is 30mm thick to carry the required weight loading, the edges are bevelled underneath so it has a thin, 15mm edging."CaesarStone is not the only product from The Laminex Group in the showroom. A large vertical pantry features Laminex Designed Timber Veneer in Allure Oak with a matt finish."We have matched the grain of the veneer with the new two-way edging introduced by The Laminex Group," says Banks. "This ensures the grain is continuously running in the same direction. It is the sort of attention to detail you expect in a high-end kitchen." Upmarket kitchen. Designer Sandra Banks.
