On March 18, more than 200,000 people walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the bridge opening. It was a grand sight by day, but by night the bridge was even more arresting thanks to a spectacular light show that illuminated the spans with ribbons of light.

The continuous lighting was supplied by Sylvania Lighting Australasia, a company that specialises in the provision of innovative lighting solutions for both large and small-scale commercial and industrial projects.

National sales and marketing manager Mark West says Sylvania Lighting supplied 2.75km of SlimLite lighting for the bridge project the longest continuous installation of this type in Australia.

"The design of the SlimLite lighting has a key benefit its plug and play connecting system and built-in electronic ballast, which saves valuable installation time. This meant less time was needed to set up and remove the lighting for this project, which was installed for just one day.

The Sylvania SlimLite T5 system is an innovative new lighting solution for both commercial and retail applications. Its small size and components ensure the SlimLite offers maximum flexibility for both continuous and non-continuous lighting use. The SlimLite T5 consists of an electronic fixture, fluorescent lamp, and a clear polycarbonate diffuser, which is double insulated with an IP21 rating.

The SlimLite system is complemented by the new SlimLine fully continuous system, with no gaps or dark areas between lamps, and the SlimDim T5 systems, which can dim down to 5% using Sylvania's own controllers, or most commercially available control systems. When using multiple luminaires and the vast array of Sylvania lamps, this dimming facility can provide an infinite range of lighting effects, such as three lamp red-green-blue effects, or two lamp colour temperature variation.
