Spectacular looks may be top of your wish list for your new home, but as well as being a place you are proud to call your own, it also needs to be comfortable. An easy flow between rooms, private outdoor spaces, shelter from the wind these are features that give a house character and make it a pleasure to come home to.

The Venice is one of Platinum Homes' most popular home designs for a number of reasons one of the most appealing being its sheltering 45º wing layout. This house offers year-round protection from the wind, ensuring outdoor spaces are ideal entertainment venues all summer, says director Pauline Thorburn.

"This show home is set in the Little Lakes subdivision at Paraparaumu, and enjoys lake views. While the weather can be variable, this home always feels snug."

The Venice has a sharp, contemporary street presence, with the twin pillars at the covered entry conveying a welcoming sense of solidity. From here, the hall leads to the spacious family room and kitchen, a separate living room, study, bathroom, the master suite and two large bedrooms. Despite a modest 224m² footprint, The Venice gives the sense of ample room to spare an essential part of achieving a relaxed family lifestyle.

Winning aspects of The Venice design include a double garage complete with a walk-through laundry, and a well-appointed family kitchen, also ideal for entertaining. His-and-hers walk-through wardrobes in the master suite access the ensuite. The three-way main bathroom has a spacious shower and bathtub.

"Thanks to its construction, The Venice feels solid and secure, as well as warm and comfortable," says Thorburn. "Like most of our designs, it is built with 4x2 solid timber framing, and has Gib Living approved lining and a BRANZ-appraised solid timber fascia system."

In addition, the house stands firm on an engineer-designed RibRaft floor and is insulated throughout even the garage.

"Platinum Homes can also tailor plans to suit the unique needs of the client. In this home, for example, the positions of the garage and family wing were swapped to make the best use of the location."
