As outdoor living areas increasingly become an important aspect of architectural design, their use is extended well beyond daylight hours. But just as lighting can evoke the right mood for an interior, so too can it be used to create an ambient setting outside.

The Riga light from Austrian manufacturer Eglo is a high-voltage 50W G10 halogen lamp. This column light has no transformer, making it cost effective and easy to install.
"This is an excellent light source that casts an ambient glow. It is especially effective when installed on vertical elements such as pillars and columns," says Fulford.
"The Riga light is designed to withstand all weather conditions and is available in stainless steel and copper. The later oxidises over time to achieve a rustic appearance, a look that is reminiscent of bell towers in Italy."
The Outdoor Eurolight Downlight series includes a range of low-voltage lamps. These 50W halogen lights can be installed under eaves to provide both practical and ambient lighting.
The stainless steel light fittings are moisture-resistance and require only occasional cleaning.
