Design inspiration can come from many sources, but often it is the immediate surroundings that provide the best solution. This kitchen, by independent designer Toni Roberts of Kitchen Architecture, was designed to complement the lush landscaping and resolve particular functional aspects."The owners wanted their kitchen to be part of the living area, yet also a little private, says Roberts. "We decided to have a bit of fun with the various elements, intercepting them in a playful exploration of form."The designer says a tall wall shields most of the kitchen from the entrance. "We added a dark-stained oak panel to create partial privacy from the living area. The island benchtop, which features CaesarStone from The Laminex Group, interlocks with the oak panel. This interlocking idea continues with the oak panel protruding back through the wall into the living room. The sense of elements sliding past each other is also reinforced by the front panel on the peninsula, which slides open to reveal shelving."Roberts says she specified CaesarStone in Ginger because of its natural colour tone and interesting visual texture."Being made from 94% natural quartz, CaesarStone is a particularly durable surface that's easy to clean. It is also highly resistant to staining, heat and scratches. For this project, the strength of the CaesarStone was an added consideration, because of the cantilevered benchtop."Roberts says she not only recommends CaesarStone to her clients, but has also used it in her own kitchen.
