For advice on the best wood species, color, grain and finish for your floor, speak to the experts at Armstrong¢
The popularity of hardwood flooring is partly due to the variety of species available today, which has greatly increased the choice of colors and grains for homeowners.
Depending on the look you want for your home, wood floors are available in cool yellows, warm reds, neutral umbers or natural tones. These tones may come from the natural color and graining of the species or may be the result of stains applied to the wood.
Armstrong provides its customers with a wide choice of wood floors. Exotic species such as santos mahogany, kambala, merbau and kempas are popular, but lesser-known domestic species are also gaining attention. These include ash, hickory, pecan, walnut, birch and cherry.
There are two types of hardwood floors: solid or engineered. Both types of flooring are made from 100% wood and both can be used right throughout the house, although solid wood is recommended at or above ground level, due to sensitivity to moisture.
Solid hardwood planks are made from one piece of wood and are easily sanded and refinished. Engineered wood is a high-performance product made by bonding several wood layers with the feature species showing. Many can be refinished and all can be recoated an unlimited number of times.
There are many colors, species and varieties of flooring available today, and to help steer customers through the selection process, Armstrong has produced a comprehensive yet user-friendly online Guide to Flooring, which provides information on flooring basics and answers frequently asked questions.
