Sense of drama
Bold curves, metallic surfaces and a bright glass splashback make this kitchen from Joinery Specialists the centre of attention
In most new and renovated homes today, the kitchen is crucial to open-plan living. But while most people want to be able to interact with family and guests, there is also a need to contain the kitchen visually.
Such was the case with this new kitchen, designed and built by Joinery Specialists of Dunedin in conjunction with the owners. To define the kitchen within the overall living area, a curved ceiling bulkhead was designed to match the curve of the cabinetry. Hanging lights further emphasise this shape, while illuminating the benchtop.
Designer Bronwyn Emmerson says the choice of materials adds to the dramatic look. The back panel of the cabinetry features Bisonne Metallic stainless steel laminate, which complements a Laminex Roman Marble benchtop. Other cabinetry, which includes curved shelving, features Melteca laminates.
"A bright-red, colour-backed glass splashback provides a bold colour accent at the rear and complements the stainless steel appliances," says Emmerson.
Joinery Specialists design, manufacture and install kitchens throughout the Otago region.
