Unless you're lucky enough to live in a house where privacy is not an issue, there's a good chance you'll eventually be in the market for window coverings. Like most furnishings, the type of window treatment you choose will be dependent upon personal needs and taste.

There are, however a number of other factors that need to be taken into account, such as technological advances in the industry, says Dennis Matthews, New Zealand sales manager for Window Treatments NZ Ltd.

"New lightweight materials, such as Mermet's M Fabric, are revolutionising the market. M Fabric offers all the benefits of traditional materials, as well as having a high tensile strength for better durability, and being flame resistant."

Window Treatments NZ Ltd uses M Fabric, which consists of a PVC outer coating over a fibreglass core, in a range of screen roller blinds. The blinds have proven popular thanks in part to the features already listed, but also because the fabric is translucent. This allows you to still enjoy the view even when the blind is closed.

These intelligent fabrics' as they are known in the industry set a new standard for solar protection, blocking out anywhere from 74% to 100% of UV rays. They have also been proven to reduce energy consumption by up to 33%.

Screen roller blinds are particularly suited to contemporary design schemes, but if you're looking for something to enhance a classic modern aesthetic, then you can't go past cedar blinds, says Matthews.

"Sourced from sustainable Canadian plantations, cedar blinds are suitable for a range of interior decor styles. They come in three slatting sizes, and offer great thermal qualities."

Window Treatments NZ Ltd can install both products with a motorised system, making them easier to use, especially for people with arthritis or other problems associated with loss of dexterity.

As well as the wide range of blinds offered by Window Treatments NZ Ltd, the company also produces shutters and awnings on a manufacturer-direct basis through a network of showrooms and consultants throughout New Zealand.

More than 90% of the components used by Window Treatments NZ Ltd are manufactured in their purpose-built Christchurch factory.
