A new double-decker transit area at Auckland International Airport not only provides separation for inbound and outbound travellers it also highlights a fresh approach to terminal design

Furniture in the food court was chosen to enhance its contemporary design, and to provide comfortable seating for travellers en route to departure lounges.

Bishop Interiors supplied a variety of chairs, stools, tables and bar leaners for Cafe Espresso, Blue Bar and Burger King.

Director Barry Bishop says the furniture needed to be robust, modern and functional, with an emphasis on design and contemporary appeal.

"Where possible, we have used New Zealand-made furniture," he says. "The soft seating, for example, was designed and manufactured in New Zealand by KMS. The bar leaners, designed by Redesign, were built in Christchurch. They are finished in Kymira Solid Surface Veneer, which was chosen for its durability and its ability to accommodate the intricate design specification. The bar stools, manufactured in Auckland, were specially designed by Redesign and Bishop Interiors."

Other furniture includes Amat Bikini chairs, and Max Design Riccolina and So Happy chairs, specified for their design, colour selection and strong construction.
