Securing our heritage - Auckland Art Gallery's security systems supplied by Secom Guardall
Auckland Art Gallery's security systems supplied by Secom Guardall
Protecting a valuable art collection in a building that's partly heritage, partly new, without interfering in the public's enjoyment of the exhibitions, is clearly a complex brief.
At the Auckland Art Gallery, this challenge was taken up by Secom Guardall, with the supply, installation and commission of a logical, easily managed security surveillance system. This consists of a high-level future-proof and fully expandable March Networks NVR CCTV surveillance system that interfaces with a comprehensive Matrix switching system, encompassing both high- and low-level interfacing within the Art Gallery and with other Gallery buildings and security systems. Within the scope of the tender, nationwide security specialist Secom Guardall also had to develop a purposely designed security control monitoring room, as well as ensure the layout achieves full OSH compliance and permits multiple operators to achieve optimum response with minimal physical interaction. This system allows general, pinpoint view and tracking through multiple monitors and cameras, and viewing and managing live and archived video simultaneously.
General manager Martin Keogh says working with national heritage buildings presented numerous challenges. "Preservation in heritage areas was paramount and the balance between architecture, aesthetic requirements and camera performance was also challenging. Smart product selection allowed us to resolve all these issues," he says.
