Sea change
Originally a typical 1970s house, this modern waterfront property was transformed by Don Nelson Architecture
For many homeowners, changing family requirements can dictate a house move. But for others, it makes more sense to renovate the family home, especially if the house is in a prime location.
Such was the case for the owners of this waterfront property, who commissioned Don Nelson Architecture to design a full renovation to update both the look and functionality of the 1970s house. Don Nelson says the owners wanted an open-plan layout, with easy access to the pool and beach.
The solution involved remodelling the entire building, creating a modern, Mediterranean facade that bears the company's trademark curves. Wide, bifold doors now open onto a covered alfresco dining area, with a louvred roof providing protection from the sun and rain.
New living spaces were designed to complement the new character of the house, with a curved stairway replacing the original square version.
Don Nelson Architecture specialises in both renovation and new home design nationwide.
