There's is more to a visit to the cinema than just watching a movie. And the experience begins as soon as you enter through the doors.

High-definition screens display previews of the latest must-see movies, enticing customers to return to the theatre.

With this in mind, the newly refurbished Rialto cinema complex in Newmarket chose 42-inch Ambilight plasma screens from Philips to highlight its future movie presentations.

Luana Downing, commercial channel manager for Philips NZ, says their plasma screens are suited to both commercial and residential use.

"With Ambilight technology, a soft light emits from the back of the television onto the wall behind, making it easier to focus on what's on screen," she says. "This creates a unique ambience and relaxed viewing environment."

In the Rialto lobby, the ambient glow from the television shines like a frame around the screen, drawing eyes towards it. The light changes to match the colour and intensity of what's on screen.

The plasmas use Pixel Plus technology which helps to enhance the fluidity of movement on screen, ideal for the fast-paced action of movie trailers.
