In a building reflecting design innovation at every turn, the principal fit-out contractor was required to work with a variety of concepts and products. On this project, the contractor's own design innovation was brought into play.

Focus Construction Interiors was the fit-out contractor on the 3M head office project. The work covered everything from partitioning, feature ceilings and floors through to joinery work, decorating and glazing, as well as specialist elements such as the feature display walls, says director Barry Plumpton.

"There were many feature aspects to this project, including the core, with veneer panelling clad in over 7000m of American ash timber battening," he says.

The partitioning system designed by Focus Construction Interiors Frontline was used throughout the 3M fit-out.

"Frontline offers a point of difference that the design team felt complemented 3M's innovative emphasis," says Plumpton. "Our systems are extruded from our own dies using 65% recycled aluminium, as part of our efforts to support sustainable building. When installed, they minimise join and bead lines, and feature consistent 30mm skirting, scotias, glazing and door frames, where other systems double up with join lines and become bulky.

"The effect is clean lines with doors, glazing, and walls mounted in a seamless, continuous plane."
