The National Association of Building Designers (NABD) awards puts Australia's top designers firmly in the spotlight. The event was sponsored in 2015 by James Hardie. Here are just three of the deserved winners and the judges' abridged comments.Wray Avenue, by Sam Martin Building Design, won Best Small Lot Design. This design, on a difficult site of under 250m², takes advantage of a limited northerly aspect. A clever use of long sightlines, high ceilings and courtyards provided a sense of space and links to the outdoors.Urban Oasis Townhouse, by Peter Searle Design, took home Best Small Dwelling Design up to 150m². The small irregular site sits between a conservative residential street at the front and a largely industrial location at the rear, and successfully merges the polarities to create a respectful response to the design brief.
