Combining form and function is the goal of every architect, and bold design calls for equally strong materials. Given the coastal setting of this project, external cladding options were limited.

Matching materials to the environment will keep a property looking its best for an extended period of time, says Daniel Forsyth, marketing manager for Metal Design Solutions.

"Zinc was specified here as it fulfils all of the requirements for functionality and aesthetics. This is a metal that retains its rigidity, making joints almost as strong as the material itself. In addition, the oxidation that occurs naturally over time creates a patina that protects against corrosion especially important where there is exposure to sea spray," says Forsyth.
