SAAJ Design wins 2022 TIDA Australia Architect Suite of the Year
Congratulations to SAAJ Design, winner of the 2022 TIDA Australia Architect Suite of the Year – open plan design that still retains a sense of privacy when needed
Curved walls and ceilings seamlessly draw you through the main bedroom and ensuite in this coastal property, enhancing the overall suite experience.
Variations in flooring materials and shapes create the demarcation of the suite’s various functional spaces.
The bed is tucked away at the end of the circulation path, anchored to a wall at the end of a curved ceiling.
With a north-facing window onto the swimming pool below, the bedroom enjoys a framed view onto a private, contained, balcony garden and the bay beyond.
Adjacent to this, the timber-lined curved sauna sits right next to the shower enclosure. From both the shower and sauna, the owners can enjoy a distant view to the bay, while still having privacy from neighbouring properties.
The bath alcove is designed like an intimate alcove – a space that might have been seen by some as unusable, has both sculptural and inviting qualities.
And the design of the walk-in wardrobe makes practical use of the residual space for ample storage. A cavity door allows it to be closed off from steamy areas, or stay visually connected through the use of mirrors and vista lines.
What impressed the TIDA judges was how, despite the open plan design, a sense of privacy and enclosure was created for each activity without the need to physically close them off into separate rooms.
Congratulations to Andrew Bartholomeusz of SAAJ Design, winner of the 2022 TIDA Australia Architect Suite of the Year.
