An existing brick wall feature would need to be retained and be incorporated into the completed scheme. The juxtaposition of a warm dark colour palette of deep toned, rustic sawn timber cabinetry and the cool, smooth rectilinear concrete shapes of the benches and island, begins a conversation between the urban and the rustic. The island design features a bespoke aged brass strip which seamlessly unites these two polarities and becomes a complementary element to both. The beveled detail to the table’s timber legs is repeated throughout the cabinetry in considered areas, giving a craftsman’s feel to the kitchen. Aged brass detailing is taken through into the knurled tall cabinet handles and the metal mesh doors of the built-in bar cabinet, sits beautifully in the sultry colour palette. Rusted wire fencing and auto parts are crafted into a LED swathed chandelier, creating a focal point to the kitchen space. Diagonally laid timber flooring finished in a pale wash prevents the space from becoming too serious and overly angular and brings the brick wall into the overall palette. The kitchen’s design is kept to distinct areas of operation, with the bar cabinet and fridge being easily accessible without disturbing the cooking zones. Two wine fridges are revealed behind the mesh doors in the bar area which is softly lit to highlight the continuation of timber and Neolith stone. The solid laminated timber table seats up to six people enabling immediate interaction with those making the magic happen with the Miele appliances. The kitchen’s spatial layout works well for our owner’s busy family and hectic entertaining schedule.
