Rural idyll
This American-designed farmhouse meets all local building code requirements thanks to the skill and experience of a Certified Builder
We may admire homes from elsewhere in the world, but it's not easy to transplant the plans to our country, where building codes are designed for local conditions.
The American owner of this farm wanted to build a new 440m² home for his farm manager, using existing plans from the US. He commissioned Certified Builder Jason Frater to project manage and build the home, but before he could begin work, Frater had to convert the plans to meet New Zealand building codes.
As a member of the Certified Builders Association of New Zealand (CBANZ), the property owner could be confident that Frater is a trade-qualified builder who adheres to strict guidelines for standards of workmanship and business practice.
Derek Baxter, CEO of the CBANZ, says homeowners have peace of mind when work is carried out by one of its members.
"CBANZ members undergo rigorous training and testing, including in business ethics, to become trade-qualified," he says.
In addition, homeowners can apply for a Homefirst Builders Guarantee before construction begins. On completion, a 10-year guarantee certificate is issued.
