The development's light-filled ambience is a result of a profusion of clerestory windows, large glazed shop fronts and broad entry doors, all from Miller Design

Given the scale of the development, it was important that the mall have an airy, open feel. This was achieved with skylights, clerestory windows, extensive external shopfronts and generous-sized entrances.
Miller Design worked closely with Westfield engineers, architects, construction managers, and site managers to design and implement aluminium window and door solutions that would contribute to the overall shopping experience, says project manager Robert Dobbie.
"This involved addressing the demands of both Westfield and the shop tenants themselves," he says. "Key objectives were the provision of engineered solutions across a range of window and door applications, including shop-front windows, automatic doors, curtainwalling, hinge doors and glazed canopies."

In a sense, these punctuating areas within the giant building structures perform three functions: they advertise products and points of entry, break up large tracts of concrete wall, and also give the entire complex the necessary porous, light-filled ambience.
"Two important aspects of the project were the clerestory windows and the glazed canopies dotted throughout the complex," he says. "Both products and people look their best under maximum natural light."
From the exterior, the curtainwalls create cosmetic breaks in the stretches of concrete wall, and also carry signage. Engineering for these feature elements was complex, allowing for high and variable wind loads.
