Creating a home theatre is high on the list of priorities for many homeowners today. And it's scarcely surprising the associated technology is among the biggest advances in home entertainment since the advent of television.

But whether you are building a new home or transforming an existing space, one of the most important considerations for a home theatre is sound insulation. For a true cinema-quality experience you need to keep external noise out and the audiovisual sound in.

CinemaZone® acoustic wall and ceilingsystems were developed to solve this problem. Specifically designed for use in home cinemas, the systems incorporate Boral SoundStop® plasterboard. Product manager Victor Avrutis says CinemaZone is based on smart acoustic design principles.

"The system has been designed to take into account details such as floor and wall coverings, the size and location of windows and doors, and lighting and ventilation. This ensures the walls and ceilings not only provide full sound insulation, but also enhance the quality of sound within the room."

Avrutis says the product has already been endorsed by leading audiovisual suppliers, such as The Director's Chair, which specified CinemaZone for its display room in Port Melbourne, featured on these pages.

The company's director Steve Hourigan says the display room is used to demonstrate sound equipment and it was important to ensure the noise would not disturb people in surrounding offices.

"We chose CinemaZone because it is a complete system that keeps sound isolated," he says. "It has exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend it to our clients."

The system has also been endorsed by homeowners, such as Jenny Nunan, who used the CinemaZone system when she converted her garage into a home cinema. One of her concerns was containing the sound produced by her high-performance audiovisual equipment.

"We wanted to ensure we got the best sound performance possible and the best soundproofing."

Nunan says the cinema needed to be isolated from the adjacent lounge room, as well as from the neighbours. CinemaZone has not only improved the sound system, it has also provided total sound isolation.
