The distinctive form of an iconic hotel at Barossa's Seppeltsfield Wines takes its cue the work of the vineyard's experienced craftsmen

Project: Oscar Seppeltsfield Hotel, Seppeltsfield Barossa

Architect: Intro

A new A$50 million six-star luxury hotel and day spa at Seppeltsfield is proposed to become an iconic landmark for the Barossa and tourism in Australia from 2022.

Oscar Seppeltsfield will be located in the Barossa region of South Australia, with the hotel set to attract new markets to the region and drive growth in domestic and international visitor economy.

The12-storey hotel will have around 70 rooms, including suites and penthouses, with a private balcony for every room.

Guests at the sky bar on the top level will enjoy 360-degree sweeping views of the Barossa, while the ground floor will have a wellness day spa including a private entry to a relaxation space and infinity pool.

The hotel will also offer a world-class restaurant, private dining room and boardroom

From the architects:

When architecture connects emotionally with its’ owners it becomes an emotive form of art, as with all art it is closely followed by personal subjectivity.

The approach to design was to understand and capture what makes Seppeltsfield Wines and the wider Barossa Region such a unique and beautiful part of South Australia.

The design philosophy was borne watching the experienced craftsmen wield their tools, as they contort and convex each timber stave into an iconic, recognisable form – the Barrel.

This icon represents the many facets and complexities of the Seppeltsfield history.

Oscar grows from the vineyard, its staves emerging then twisting to create the unique built form.

Intro were committed to create a highly expressive and contemporary design that sits within it organic setting.

Without the stave, there is no Barrel and without Oscar Seppelt, and now Warren Randall to continue his legacy, there is no Seppeltsfield.

These two influencers have taken the prevailing village and augmented such for the benefit of theirs and the next generation.

Oscar will be a global icon of 6 star luxury – a generational piece of architecture which will catalyse conversations for decades that come.
