This new house, overlooking bluffs above the Mississippi, was designed to resemble a barn conversion right down to the kitchen detailing by Drury Design
Everyone has a vision for their new kitchen, but it takes an expert to translate this into a functional kitchen that meets all the aesthetic requirements.
Drury Design Kitchen & Bath Studio designed this entertainer's kitchen for a getaway house in a small Midwest town overlooking the bluffs on the Mississippi River. Designer Tina Muller says the client wanted her home to resemble a traditional old barn that been converted to create a modern urban space.
"To add visual warmth, tumbled stone floors and walls have been teamed with dark chocolate quarter-sawn maple cabinets built by Ovation Cabinetry. These feature Ovation's Plateau and stainless steel doors, and white fusion granite countertops."
Muller says the biggest challenge was the placement of a 60in Wolf range and stainless steel double-stacked hood in front of a large picture window so the owner could enjoy the scenery while preparing meals.
"We pulled the cabinets out to 30in to provide enough clearance for the hood. However, the venting required some innovative engineering."
Because the owner wanted a kitchen that would be ideal for entertaining, there are two ovens in the range, two large refrigerators, two dishwashers and warming drawers.
